Experience

Jon is a seasoned renewable energy attorney with experience working as general counsel for a regional energy developer in the process of developing over 1,500 MW of wind, solar and wave energy projects. Prior to joining CLP, Jon was a shareholder with a major Portland law firm where he chaired the firm’s energy practice.

Jon has represented clients in all aspects of renewable energy project development and finance, including asset acquisitions, divestitures, document drafting and negotiations, and due diligence analyses. He has drafted numerous asset and power purchase agreements for both small and large scale projects and assisted clients in permitting and environmental issues. He is also active with green building issues and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional.

In addition to his traditional legal work, Jon is an active member of the Oregon Business Association’s Environmental and Economic Development Committee, and serves on the Professionalism Committee of the Multnomah Bar Association. He is also the Founder and President of Portland Biodiesel, LLC, the first fully-permitted commercial biodiesel plant in the City of Portland. The plant processes 8 million pounds of local waste grease into over 1 million gallons of sustainable biodiesel annually.

Jon is an adjunct professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, where he teaches classes on renewable energy and climate change. He serves on the Oregon State Bar Law-Sustainability Task Force, a nationally recognized speaker on renewable energy and tax credit structured finance issues, and a frequent contributor to such publications as the Portland Business Journal, Sustainable Industries Journal and Public Utilities Fortnightly. Jon is a former chair of the energy section of the Oregon State Bar and continues to serve on the executive committee. In 2008, Jon was recognized by the Portland Business Journal as one of Portland’s “Forty Under 40.”
